| I’ve always thought it was lack of motivation. Or laziness. Or ignorance. Or intolerance. Or lack of empathy. All of that bothers me for sure. But you know what unifies all that? What is the one thing that is perhaps the root of all those? Lack of curiosity. If you aren’t curious, you can’t fix ignorance. You can’t overcome laziness. Curiosity is the natural enemy of lack of motivation. It is also an enemy of intolerance and lack of empathy. Think about it, what motivates empathy–relating to someone. You might not see how you can relate. If you are curious and you believe everyone has value, you will find a way to empathize. If you are curious about a culture, a thought process, a motivation– you will tolerate better. You humanize instead of dehumanize. I genuinely believe that EVERY person on this Earth has something they can teach me. So I am curious about them. And guess what, I can relate better. I am “tolerant”–not in that I accept bad behavior but instead, I am curious what created that behavior. Where did that come from? Humans shouldn’t do that… therefore, how do I relate and figure that out. I know this was a little more ramble-y than normal. But that’s ok. It is a real peek into my brain. Hope you enjoyed it. |
