| I hear some version of this quite often: “Jonathan, I don’t know how you do all the things you do.” My reply is typically pretty standard, “poorly sometimes”. And that is the truth. I started way too many things at one time. I went from a focused, machine of a business and mushroomed into too many things at once. It has certainly been exciting but it has not been overly lucrative. Knowing what I know now and knowing myself like I do now, and ESPECIALLY with my wife’s uncanny ability to be very, very self aware, I realize the error of those thought processes. It is very, very hard to do too many things at one time. Multi-tasking is a lie. It is not really possible. And if your goal is to do big things, the focus it takes to do them is even greater. I don’t know exactly what this realization means yet. I know that I have to “lock in”, as my kids say, on the things that really really matter. With all of our things going on outside of work, that is the real estate business. That is the arm I can do the most good. It is also the arm I have spent the least time growing. So, here is my ask, and you know I don’t ask for much from you, my friends. I really need to get some warm introductions and referrals from people you know and that know and trust you. You know I will give sound, them-benefitting, advice. I need to tell folks about the opportunities and the reasons to delay in this current market. So, if you have friends that have maybe tried other agents. Or maybe they are hesitant. Or maybe they just need some info, send them to me. I will give them a realistic preview of what to expect. I will give them the advice I’d give my mom (and I love my mom more than anyone else on the planet besides my wife and kids). For some, that advice is to stay put, wait. For others it is to move quickly. For others it will be to time it out to a certain place in the future. For still others, it will be to work a plan and be ready to strike. It truly just depends on their unique circumstances. |
