Strengths

Strengthen Strengths or Strengthen Weaknesses?

Always a good debate. Are you better off trying to build your skills at things you are ok at or are you better off getting even better at things you are really good at? I tend to think you are better at building your strengths and outsourcing your less abilities. But I can absolutely see the value in the other approach.

On one hand, if you truly become the best at something, you are invaluable to someone that needs that skill. No one better. You can charge a premium and have plenty of money to pay experts at the things you didn’t get good at. Unless, of course, the thing you are excellent at is not marketable.

On the other hand, having at least proficient skills in many many different things, makes you very self reliant and makes it hard for an “expert” to take advantage of you due to your ignorance.

BUT, if you spend time becoming a renaissance man instead of a true expert, you are never great at anything, only good at lots of things.

What say you?
