J. Harmon Home Team would like to congratulate Denise Parton on being awarded our October 2023 Hero of the Month award.
Her nomination reads: Denise has worked for the past 8 years developing a theatre program at a local nonprofit. She has poured her time, love and sometimes her own finances into creating a fun, educational and safe environment for children and teens to explore the arts. This year has been a rough one for her. She lost her job due to a change in administration and as a single mom faced with having to figure out how to provide for her daughter and not walk away from the kids and career, she loved she took a HUGE leap of faith and began her own nonprofit family friend theatre company. Inner Light Family Theatre. I have seen personally the impact Denise has on the kids in her program as my daughter is one of those kids. During covid, when our kids’ worlds were turned upside down, Denise found creative ways to still stay connected and to give our kids an outlet. She was a bright spot in a very dark time for my daughter and her friends. I have watched my daughter’s talents and love for theatre bloom but most importantly I have watched her feel loved, valued and seen and she has developed lifelong friendships among the group of kids Denise has mentored over the years. Taking risks are hard and I would love to see her, and her new Theatre get the love, support and recognition they deserve! Thanks so much!
