International Folk Fest

This Friday Cedar Glade is hosting the 43rd Annual International FolkFest. This will be the third year we’ve hosted it. If you haven’t attended before, you should. Here are the top 3 reasons why:

1) It is free and very family friendly. Colorful costume, folk music, folk dancing. Troupes from France, Germany and Croatia plus our own Cripple Creek Cloggers. Cedar Glade is always family friendly (contrary to some beliefs, we are not a traditional “bar”). Kids are totally spellbound by the dancers. You will be too.

2) It is good to learn about other cultures. We tend to be somewhat isolated. We tend to stick to people “like us”. It is a huge world with so much variety. But there are a few threads that make us all human–artistic expression, music, community, traditions, roots. You get all of that and more at FolkFest. I think you become a better human the more you realize how truly insignificant and small you really are. You are barely a drop of water in an ocean of people, history, culture, etc. But the more drops that come together, the more we can move things.

3) This is one of only like 3-4 of these kind of celebrations in the country. And it is right here in the Boro. Take advantage of what’s literally in your back yard, well it is our side parking lot but you get the idea.

I hope to see you Friday. The fun starts at 5. Bring a lawn chair. We are also brewing a beer style from each country. Should be an absolute blast, again
