Negotiation

This past Friday Cedar Glade hosted dancers and musicians from the 42nd annual International Folk Fest. Despite the rain, it was a magical evening as dancers from Poland, Puerto Rico and Estonia danced traditional dances while musicians from the same countries Do you realize that everything is negotiable? You just have to have the guts to do it. And understand people to figure out the most effective approach. Sometimes you approach with humor. Sometimes with logic. But always with humility and a mind set that you are asking someone for a favor. You also have to figure out if the person you are talking to even has the ability to make the decision you are asking for. Finally, ask for something that is actually attainable. A discount, adding a perk, something a little extra. Something from behind the scenes. If you ask for too much, the other person will just assume you are joking or out of your mind. Don’t be afraid to pay for something. In other words, if you are trying to get something not available (behind the scenes, premium, etc.) grease the wheels with the person in front of you for them to have a personal gain. Tip them. You might be surprised how far a $20 bill will go. The last bit of advice is don’t be mad or too disappointed if you don’t succeed. Sometimes you will, sometimes you won’t. But the answer is always “no” if you don’t ask.
