I say it all the time. And I mean it. Sometimes, however, I need to remind myself!! This morning I spent some quality time in a crawlspace helping a client try to save some money on removing a deficient vapor barrier. It saved $1000 or so BUT I will tell you, and my client will too now, it was NOT worth it. My crawlspace guy, Jim Africano, is a pro. He has the tools and the crew and the experience to make that job suck a little less. And, the way my knees feel right now, it is worth the money. I did some things out of order that made the job harder. I was also not adequately dressed or equipped to do the work. Not to mention I am not nearly skinny enough to get in small spaces, lol. So I will say it again, pros charge what they charge for a reason. You are not paying just for that job. You are paying for the experience and education they have received from ALL the previous jobs that pro did. They can do it easier, faster and better than you can (almost always) and the minute they can’t (or don’t) they are not useful to you. Until then, hire and trust a pro. Focus on the things you are a pro at instead. |
