Bonsai Tree Care with Rabeeh Elassal

Rabeeh Elassal: Hey, everybody. This is Rabeeh Elassal with the J. Harmon Home Team. I am briefly going to touch on a hobby of mine that I’ve been doing for quite some time. And it is bonsai trees, quite literally means tree in a shallow container, bonsai are two words that are Japanese and bon means shallow container and sai means tree or a planted tree. So it literally translates into a tree potted in a shallow container. So this behind me is just an example of one I’m working on, I’ve been working on for a little while. It’s a cedar of Lebanon or a Cedrus libani if I want to sound fancy in Latin. It’s a wonderful hobby. I got into it because my favorite movie of all time is The Karate Kid and still is. And of course, anybody that’s from my generation or I guess the newer generations with the new Netflix series knows what I’m talking about. So there’s so much that I could talk about when it comes to it, from how to prune it, from how to plant them, from how to collect them, how to take care of them. Every species is different. They’re all individuals and it is the most fascinating thing you could get into, if you have any interest in plants, botany, horticulture, you can have an endless variety of trees, you can turn into bonsai. So if you have any questions or interests, please feel free to reach out to me. I’d love to chat with you, tell you what I know, point you in the right direction. A great place is also the Bonsai Society that meets at Cheekwood in Bellevue. That was a plant place that really took off for me and showed me a lot of cool things about this hobby. So if you have any questions, once again, reach out to me. I’d love to talk to you. That’s all I got.
