Shop Around

We are in the process of figuring out our situation with the big renovation and part of the puzzle is securing some financing. Over the last few weeks, Lici and I have been talking to several different financial advisors and lenders to try to figure out the best route for us. We have some very specific needs and very specific circumstances that we don’t want to change. What we have found is that there is one “easy” answer that everyone can give. Well, we were not satisfied with it because it seemed like there should be more options. So we kept asking, shopping, talking to others. And, sure enough, we found another, better option. It will save us some money but, more importantly, it gives us the security we desire and enables us to keep some of our circumstances where we want them.

What’s the point? Ask questions and push a little. Fairly often, the first answer you are given is not the best one. If something doesn’t fit as well as you want it to, don’t buy it. Express why it doesn’t fit. Ask for more options, ask why that first answer is what someone is recommending to you. And ask yourself, is the person getting a benefit you are unaware of because of this particular product. Is there one better for you that isn’t quite as good for them? Maybe not. But ask. And tell them if there is another component you want to “fix”. One of my driving life mottos is “the answer is always no if you don’t ask.”

You might be surprised what doors get opened just from asking simple questions. Sometimes, the question to ask is simply, “is there another option”. Make the other person think. Make them pause and get out of automatic mode.

Love yall, have a great week.
