Labor Day began Officially in 1894, though by this time 30 states already had it as a public holiday. It is a day to celebrate and commemorate the labor movement and all the contributions the laboring class has made in our country. Many other countries have similar days though at different times. Canada’s Labor Day is the same as ours. Others do it in May. The first Monday in September was chosen as roughly the halfway point from 4th of July and Thanksgiving and gives optimum weather for a 3 day weekend. Some cities have parades, many places have cookouts and celebrations. 

I would like to thank all of you that read this email for your contributions to our community and your labor. I know many many people that do many many incredible and sometimes unappreciated things. Everything from mowing your own grass to help your neighborhood stay attractive to building things to taking care of people in various stages of life to educating our kids to protecting our community in various ways. Plus all of you that work in all kinds of retail and customer service type roles. Some of you manufacture things, grow things, and find things. Some of you archive things, curate things and make things beautiful and more beautiful. My hat is off to all of you for making my community vibrant, diverse and wonderful. 

So for all of you wonderful people, take a minute and thank some folks for what they do. Thank them for the community we have. Give them a high five, a pat on the back, a thumbs up or at least a smile. We have a great place. Its great because the people are great. Thank you.
